It’s almost official. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s September event is set for September 10, where the Cupertino-based company is expected to unveil a slew of new products.
We anticipate the launch of at least four new iPhones: the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Additionally, the Apple Watch Series 10 is likely to be showcased, along with a potential update to Apple’s earbuds with the AirPods 4 and possibly the Apple AirPods Max 2.
While Apple is generally more tight-lipped compared to competitors like Samsung and Google, that doesn’t mean rumors don’t occasionally slip through the cracks.
Likely release date: September 20, 2024
Gurman reports that “iPhone 16 will have larger screens on its Pro models and new camera features, such as a dedicated button for snapping photos.“ However, he predicts that the most significant updates will come in the wearables category, with a thinner Apple Watch featuring larger displays and the introduction of two new AirPods models.
To give you a better sense of what to expect when Apple unveils its next generation of iPhones and other devices, we’ve compiled seven of the most intriguing rumors we’ve come across.
Top iPhone 16 rumors
Larger Displays for iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max
Apple seems to be going big this year, with multiple rumors suggesting that the iPhone 16 Pro models will feature larger screens. The standard iPhone 16 Pro is expected to increase in size from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, pushing it closer to the mid-size category.
On the other hand, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is rumored to jump from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches, marking a significant increase. For comparison, the Galaxy S24 Ultra and Google Pixel 9 Pro XL both measure 6.8 inches, making the iPhone 16 Pro Max the largest flagship phone in the U.S. that isn’t foldable.
Lights, cameras, Capture button
We’ve heard mixed reports about this feature, but it seems likely that Apple is planning to add a “Capture” button to at least some iPhone 16 models. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this dedicated camera button would function much like a traditional camera. Pressing it halfway would activate auto-focus, while pressing it fully would take a photo.
What’s more intriguing is that swiping your finger over the Capture button could allow you to zoom in and out while capturing photos and videos. While this feature is expected to debut on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, it might also appear on the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus.
iPhone 16 prices
Throughout the summer, it seems like tech companies across the board, from streaming services to manufacturers, have been raising their prices. However, recent rumors indicate that Apple might hold the line on iPhone pricing, with only a slight increase expected for the iPhone 16 Pro.
Expected price in details model wise
The starting price for each base model of the iPhone 16 is anticipated to remain unchanged. However, similar to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, Apple may eliminate the 128GB storage option for the iPhone 16 Pro, resulting in a $100 price increase, bringing it to $1,099.
Apple Watch Series 10 rumours
Bigger displays
It seems 2024 is the year Apple is going big with all of its products. Rumors suggest that the Apple Watch Series 10 will undergo its most significant design overhaul since the Apple Watch 7. According to reports, the new series will come in two sizes, expanding to 45mm and 49mm, compared to the current 41mm and 45mm options.
If the renders are accurate, the Apple Watch 10 could feature a 2-inch display, making it the largest Apple Watch to date. However, despite the larger screen, it might still have thinner bezels, keeping it more compact than the 1.93-inch Apple Watch Ultra.
Sleep apnea and hypertension detection
If Apple manages to include sleep apnea detection and blood pressure tracking in the Apple Watch 10, it could be a major selling point for their next smartwatch. However, the inclusion of these features remains uncertain, and it’s unclear whether they’ll make it into the new watch.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, both features are reportedly struggling in testing. Sleep apnea detection is linked to blood oxygen saturation tracking, a capability Apple has struggled with due to ongoing patent infringement issues with Masimo Corp.
If Apple hasn’t found a solution for these features, they might be delayed until next year. Yet, there are conflicting reports suggesting that these features could still debut this year.
Apple Airpods 4 rumors
Introducing Two Fresh Variants
Apple hasn’t updated the original AirPods since the third generation launched in 2021. However, reports indicate that new AirPods will be unveiled at Apple’s September event. It appears Apple plans to introduce a more budget-friendly pair to replace the AirPods 2, which have remained available as a lower-cost option, along with a successor to the AirPods 3.
The key distinction between the two rumored versions, aside from their price, is active noise canceling (ANC). The higher-end successor to the AirPods 3 is expected to feature ANC, a capability currently found only in the AirPods Max and AirPods Pro models.
